My personal view of the 2002 meetings that I have attended. Pit gossip- Class 2 Mk 2 Fiesta for Wayne Thresher- or a class 6 Nova- he cant make his mind up.
Ben Hobbs Z car 9 still not ready
Steve Rodd- A race without spinning the Escort- well done mate
ANdrew Eves- a trophy winner- well done Evesy
Jed Francis- wishes he had ignored my advice to race- having rolled and wrecked the car- sorry mate
Freya Hoppe winning the bike race- like father like daughter- 8 years to juniors
Jon Napier- a superstar debut in the Fay C3 starlet
Kraig Murley- top form again in the metro
Disappointed that there were not more SS cars with us on Saturday- you missed a good days fun racing
Wessex 2 dayer 29/30 June The Saturday racing was poorly attended even with the 3pm start, however the cars that raced could have upto 6 races each. A novel knockout format led through to a cracking final which saw the specials of Stuart Taylor WS221, Ian Stott WS56 and Dave Atkins BS81 swarm past the PAC110 Michael Gale car on the entry to the last corner, Stuart managed to hold the tightest line and pipped Stotti by a matter of inches to the line. Sundays racing returned to a more normal format and we were graced with the presence of Spam, Tim Harber, Paul Regan and others. After a quick clutch change on his ex Harber Micra, Boy Blunder Parkin made it a field of 3 Harber Micras, completed with the returning Gary James in his self buitlt SS147 Micra.
Roger Lillington showed that his Escort is still in the running and clocked up a victory over the modern machinery in heat 2. However come final time it was the Newark engined Hoppe car leading the way from Tovey, Rgan Parkin and Harber.
Highlight of the Day
Winning against a class field
Everybody should note that the track is now back to former glory and is very fast and raceable. Please come and join us for the 21st July.
Finally, Good Luck to the Southern league ladies and Junior off to York for the Ladies and Juniors Nationals
RADFORD BAS
My first big outing of the year, having not raced at Radford since 1994 I was very impressed with the layout that welcomed us on Friday night. Trackside parking courtesy of the early Wessex arrivals was excellent- although more levelling blocks are required!! After a demoralising 5th in ht1, I thought it was all over however a 1st and 2nd scraped me into the final and after the usual c2 shananigans a 4th in the final was better than expected . I was well chuffed The racing was excellent and the track superb. Well done Radford.
Highlight of the Day:
Riding on the presentation truck again!
June 2002 Nationals allocations are about and as ever the nerves are jangling as to whether there is a place for you!

Good luck all! South Somerset 26th May 2002 Unexpectedly a glorious (ish) morning met the arriving drivers at Rousdon. However this was only going to last until the start of racing, where pretty persistant rain made the track a quagmire quickly. The club intended to run finals, however with the ambulance needing to be towed off the track, in the interest of safety and sanity the meeting closed after 2 heats ( for the second Southern league meeting in succession) A very poor turnout of cars- 50 ish , due to a few reasons, namely 1 3 weekends on the trot 2 Wet and windy weather 3 National points not of interest to the "also rans" 4 BAS at York Personally a good points scoring day for me, but I can never recollect only 1 grid of class 2's at a southern league meeting before. For reference my count of cars is based on C1 14 C2 9 C3 2 C4 1 C5 4 C6 4 C7 3 C8 1 C9 4 C10 1 LADIES 4 Juniors 12? Highlight of the day Going top in the points table>> Wessex 19th May What can be said- wet wet and wet- but it did not rain!! The track was deep in mud for race 1. Cancellation after 2 heats was met with approval all round! Those C2 boys T,P and H are all on the same no. of points after 11 races- 9 to go. Highlight of the day: Going home- and winning! Wessex 12th May An excellent turnout from WASA made this a good days racing. Fast and furious on the black surface. Some very good racing with Ian Fay taking his first win of the year. Tovey, Parkin and myself still locked together- this battle is going to the wire. Highlight of the day: Driving Kraig Murleys Pug 7-and nearly beating John Gay (twice) South Somerset 28th April A much wetter Rousdon met us today, the track had had no work on and by the end of the day was rough and wet! The draws for the heats are not going my way "boo hoo" but a 1st, 2nd and 3rd kept the points coming in. Well done Boy Blunder- a win in the final. Highlight of the day: Going home! to dry out South Somerset 7th April 2002 Having spent an hour lost in deepest Dorset on Saturday night, we were met with a good looking track, which raced in my opinion reasonably well. That young Craig Tovey thoroughly demoralised me in the heats with 2 sound beatings, however come final time Hoppe done good! Highlight of the day: Mr Cleal dishing some out! Gloucester March 2002 Nice welcome from the gate crew. Track was small but raced well. The good old class 2 bullsh** was rife with the Bredon Hill crew and an enjoyable day with 2 wins, was ended with a dropped valve in the final. Highlight of the day: Selling my SU!<
